World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD)

Have you heard of the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day? Every year on the 15th of June the often silent suffering of the elder generation is commemorated. This commemoration was recognised in December 2011 by the United Nations, after the request of the Prevention of Elder Abuse, who started this tribute in 2006.

On this day, the whole world opposes elderly abuse and suffering. Elder abuse occurs in many parts of the world. It is a global and social issue which violates Health and Human rights. The abuse is often underestimated and ignored by societies across the world.

Just as in previous years, many events will be organized by individuals, communities, municipalities, and organisations. They hope to increase awareness about these mistreatments and to emphasise the need for action.

This worldwide problem deserves the attention of the entire international community. We want to contribute to increasing awareness about this abuse.
